THE CRAFT / Flower Gauze Jacquard
This scarf is created using the flower gauze jacquard technique — known in Chinese as Hua Luo Ti Hua — an ancient silk weaving method recognised as part of China’s intangible cultural heritage. Unlike conventional printed scarves, the pattern here is woven directly into the fabric structure itself.
The technique works by twisting adjacent warp threads during weaving, forming tiny, evenly distributed openings across the surface. Consequently, these micro-perforations give the silk its signature qualities: an exceptionally light hand feel, natural breathability, and a subtle translucency that catches the light beautifully.
Furthermore, the production process involves nearly thirty individual steps — from the careful selection of mulberry silk threads through to pattern drafting and loom weaving.
